Go-to maternity wear

A maternity wardrobe shouldn't have to be a huge investment. Your body changes so much throughout a pregnancy and what works in trimester one will be very different to what is comfortable when you hit those final weeks. While functionality and comfort are number one, you can still maintain a stylish look with a few key pieces.

Step One - remove and relocate anything in your closet that doesn't fit or isn't practical. For example, your tight skinny jeans and body suits.
Step Two - do a stocktake of what you already have. Statement necklaces, boyfriend blazers and clutch purses are my go-to pieces to jazz up an ordinary outfit. Anything stretchy, wrap around or oversized also gets to stay and pull out anything that will work with a belly - button up shirts (also good for after), jackets, scarves and all your flat shoes!
Step Three- work out a budget. Decide how much you are prepared to spend on your maternity wardrobe based on your needs. Are you working? Do you need to stick to a particular dress code? Think about what your daily activities are and plan accordingly. My days are spent chasing a toddler so tights and loose shirts are top of my list and kimonos are life.
Step Four - Make a list of the basics and hit the shops (or online). Look for items that might work post-partum too. Eg. buttons down front for feeding. Below you'll find a few of my favs.
An absolute must! Kmart full length over the tummy leggings $9 each.
Kimonos and Shawls are perfect over a dress or jeans and top, especially if you want a little extra coverage.  I  purchased the Knit Shawl Cape from Kmart for $20 and even though I'm at the end of my pregnancy, it'll get tones of use post delivery.

I brought a pair of Jeanswest maternity jeans last time I was pregnant and they are still going strong. I'd love a pair of these  though!

Target Over the Belly Tube Skirt $25

Kmart Maternity Dress (Feeding Friendly) $18
Band shirts are my favourite, just size up and you can wear tucked, knotted or loose for a different look each time.  Boohoo has a great range and more often than not, they are on sale!

Store Edit: Building a capsule wardrobe at Forever New

Welcome to my new series of blogs 'Store Edit' where I pull together my favourite pieces from my go-to stores. Forever New is always top of my list for timeless pieces that age well - in particular, I have about seven of their blazers on high rotation in closet. Also, if you've been here for more than five minutes you'd be well aware that I am a fan of a monochrome palette and a capsule wardrobe that works for you. A little black dress, versatile heels, structured blazer, neutral accessories and classic basics can make getting ready each day enjoyable rather than utter torture. Check out my edit of what I'm eyeing off for when the baby bump has departed!  Deena Lace Drape Midi Dress $159.99 Kiki Cage Clutch $59.99 Viviana Long-Sleeved Linen Shirt $79.99 Bella High-Rise Sculpting Jeans $89.99 Penelope Two-Part Court Heels $69.99 Aurelia 13" Laptop Bag $89.99 Ava Boyfriend Blazer $89.99 Please note: this is in no way sponsore...

How we got baby to sleep through the night* **

Back when all I could do was imagine her sleeping there.  *we have no freaking idea. This post gives no real advice and is not selling a sleep program. It is purely a recount of my experience so far. ** Daisy is sleeping through at the moment. She is not teething yet but she is about to enter a leap. We are by no means under the illusion that this is forever. Daisy sleeping through the night happened by accident. We just woke up one morning and realised that she hadn't woken up. Cue the diving out of bed to check she was still breathing. We stood at the cot and grinned at each other for a really long time. The next night it happened again. The third night, she woke us up. "But Daisy," I said, "you sleep through now,". She had a bottle and went back to sleep. We haven't really worked at setting a routine but fell into one anyway. She has a bath every night, a bottle and then is either rocked to sleep or placed into her cradle in our room awake but sl...

Why I don't post photos of my kids online

There is a lot of controversy today with new advice suggesting we should ask our toddlers permission before posting photos online. While I think that is all kinds of ridiculous and the decision belongs to parents and no one else I do get asked often why I don’t share images of Daisy and now also Lucas on social media.  I was an early adopter of social media and managed accounts way before it became a job title. I’ve seen the good, the bad and downright ugly. Something that can form amazing communities can also wreck people’s lives in more ways then one. Before I had the kids Steve and I discussed what our decision would be in terms of social media. At first he didn’t mind either way but as time has gone on he is totally on board with maintaining their privacy. One question I’ve been asked was, ‘Do you not take photos of your kids? Of course I do. The photos I do post are usually just the bloopers from the 255 I’ve taken of their faces. My iCloud has about 10 000 phot...
