Diary and phone reminders
I still use an old school diary that has plenty of notes pages as well as monthly and weekly pages. I regularly sit down and add reminders to my phone for appointments and events as a back up and I can only survive with a detailed to-do list. I also have a white board in my office for long term to do lists or tasks based on certain areas. For example at the moment on my whiteboard I have a list for Daisy’s 1st Birthday, one for study and one for things that need to be done to the house before it becomes a rental.
Bill clip on fridge
We put all our bills, in order to be paid, on a clip on the fridge. That way we always know what is due next and avoid late fees. If you get all your bills by email, the alternative would be a list on a whiteboard (somewhere that you’ll see it everyday) of what bill is due, how much and when.
Decluttering and labelling
So I haven’t gone all Marie Kondo but reducing the amount of ‘stuff’ we’ve been hoarding has been and remains a priority. I’ve been tackling small areas such as the pantry and kitchen drawers but next on my list is my office and second wardrobe... for that I might need a whole month!
Meal planning and prepping
This has been a game changer for us! I’ll cook in bulk and have a list of every meal I plan to cook for the fortnight. It keeps me on budget and also reduces the likelihood of a greasy takeaway. I just brought a planner notepad from Kmart so I can map out which nights I want to cook particular dishes.
Cleaning schedule
It’s much less of a drag when you only have to do a quick clean a day rather than four hours on Saturday morning. I had come up with my own rough timeline for cleaning but I've just downloaded a house cleaning schedule template by Steph Pase at Just Another Mummy Blog that you can customise to suit your home and lifestyle.
Goal setting
Even though I’m technically on maternity leave I still sat down at the beginning of the year and set some goals. These included graduating uni, completing some short courses and getting back into writing. I have smashed a few and have a few to go and find that these small achievements that are just for me are motivating and make me a better mummy. I like to write each goal on its own page right in the middle. From here I’ll note down all the steps involved and tick them off as I go as I find this keeps me on track and motivated to keep going.
Self care
Since I was pregnant with Daisy I have followed a rule of “one thing a day”. This is one thing that I do each day to look after me. It could be making a really nutritious smoothy, going for a walk or painting my nails. Sometimes it’s a few minutes to slap on a face mask and other times it’s a few hours at the hairdresser. Currently on my do list is to book into a pre-natal yoga class as my “one thing”. For you it could be anything that makes you feel happy, confident and healthy. Often I’ll just read a chapter of a book as my time out!
How do you stay on top of things?
